School is just around the corner

I spent about three hours in my classroom this afternoon before I felt like I was walking in circles. I have little piles of things to do but I just couldn't get focused. I don't think it helped that the air had turned off from the normal schedule it is on and I couldn't seem to override it to make the room cooler fast enough. So, I waved the white flag and moved on for the day. (And then up the hill to my parent's house for dinner...thanks for sharing, Favorite Parents!)

I made progress while in my room, but I have much more to do before I am anywhere near ready to have my new little treasures walk through my door. I still have stuff all over the floor, a list of to-do's in my mind (that I need to get on paper), a shopping list started and a stack of stuff that needs to be laminated...and then cut out. I'm not sure, but I'm fairly confident that I still need those 100 days that I don't have to get things done. ha!

This is the time of year that I really start thinking about the kids that are going to be in my room. I wonder if they've had good summers...if they are anxious about starting third grade...if they are excited about starting third grade...what their families are like...if they know I am just as nervous and excited and anxious about starting a new year as they are...if I am at the top of their list of teachers they want (lame and self-centered, but true.)...and if they will think my jokes are funny. So many thoughts tumble around in my head as I prepare my classroom for the little feet that will walk through my door.

I love teaching and I love getting to speak into the lives of my treasures. I just pray that I am doing all I can for them and am setting the example that I should be setting. Spending time in my room only makes me think about these things more...

Will you pray with me for all the kids that will be walking through the halls of my sweet little school in a few weeks? Pray that their summers end on a high note...that they will be excited about the adventures of the year to come. Will you specifically pray for me as I am preparing for my personal class? Pray that I will be the teacher they need to have and that I will be able to do all for them that I can. Pray also for my administration as they make final decisions about staffing and placements, and as they prepare to lead our school. Also, pray for the new teachers that will be joining us and for the faculty and staff as we prepare to work together again (in what can sometimes be a stressful environment). Pray too that as we finish up our summers well, we will look toward starting a new year and that we will be rested and ready to go for the year? There are many, many hands that make a school work and it is imperative that we all work together and do our part.

I would appreciate it...and I know everyone else I listed above would as well. :)

And don't worry...I'll keep you posted. I always have tales to tell.
