If there's one thing that drives me crazy, it is this: (Stay with me.)
I went to a four year college, right? (Yes.)
And I worked my tail off cutting, coloring and pasting to get my education degree, right? (Yes.)
And my parents paid all the money to make that happen, right? (Yes.)
And I walked across the stage, graduated and now own a piece of paper and a teaching license that tells me I'm allowed to shape and form young minds, right? (Yes.)
And I make a maddening amount of money for all of the work that I do, right? (Yes.) [[Although, let me say this: I am super grateful for the money and the fact I have a stable job and such and such and such.]]
But what's even more maddening, is that someone can get their Bachelors in Turf Management, decide grass cutting really isn't there thing, go back, get their Masters, do the SAME cut, coloring and pasting, and walk out making more money than I do because they have their Masters. And I only have my Bachelors. Nevermind the fact we've done the SAME work. Even when I was at the UU, I had Masters kids in my final classes for education. So seriously, THE SAME WORK.
BUT, what's even more maddening than that, you ask? I can go back and get my Masters in something like Theory and Practice or even Administration after I've done the cutting and coloring and pasting, have more knowledge than Turf Managment Dude as far as education is concerned (because, remember, I've now received a Bachelors AND a Masters in Education.) and still only make the same amount of money that TM Dude does because TM Dude has his Masters, too. I have bunches of friends who have decided to go this route--some of the people I work with and love fit into this category. Please hear me say :I'm not bitter towards them AT ALL. I just think the whole thing is a little unfair and I want to stamp my foot like a mad 4 year old.
Thank you for listening.
All that said though, I've decided to take (assuming they'll accept me) an online Master's program through ASU @ Jonesboro. I'll never have to walk on campus unless I want to walk across the stage at graduation, which, with me and my directional skills, is a positive thing. (Although I do have GPS Lee in my life now.)
So, I'm filling out my application and double, triple, octople check everything I've filled in, hit submit and then fill in the other information to pay the application fee and such. A page comes up that says I need to print, so I take it in to my printer, hook my printer up and...
My computer freezes. Good-bye sheet of paper I'm supposed to print.
Then, I try to log back on to see if I can retrieve it which was pointless. It was gone for good. And as I'm checking around, I see my phone number: 555-555 ext 5555. WHAT?
Yes, I filled in both my personal and school number WRONG on my application. Normally, they have those three little boxes that you put the area code, first three digits and then last four digits. So that's what I did. Makes sense right? Apparently, I was supposed to put the area code in, then all seven digits of my phone number, then four digits of an extension. Seriously?
They'll take one look at my application and wonder what's applied for their online program.
